Video calls
Video call translation with live subtitles
Seeing the other person makes a conversation easier — until you cannot understand them. On a Dilinga video call, what each person says appears as translated subtitles on screen and is spoken in the other language, while the call is still running.
Dilinga is coming very soon to the App Store and Google Play. Write to [email protected] and we will tell you the day it opens. Ask about Dilinga →
What you see and hear
- Subtitles in your language on screen while the camera is on.
- Spoken translation of each sentence, so you can keep your eyes on the person rather than the text.
- Your own language, all the way through. Neither of you switches to a shared language.
Good for
Grandparents and grandchildren who do not share a first language, couples and in-laws across countries, showing a product or a room to someone abroad, or a first meeting with a new business contact.
How to start one
Open a contact and tap the video button — the same way you would start any video call. The language each person reads is already on the conversation, so there is nothing to set before the call. Both people use Dilinga on iPhone or Android.
Questions
Can I switch from a voice call to video?
Voice and video calls both start from the contact. Use video when you want subtitles on screen.
Is the video sent for translation?
No. Speech is recognised on your phone and only the resulting text is translated.
